FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK 2009-2010
With the great support of our sponsors-Northern
Coalfields Ltd., through their visionary leaders, and your moral support, we are
bound to continue to meet the expectations that everyone has from DPS Nigahi.
Dear Parents,
Welcome to the session 2009-2010.
It has always been a pleasure addressing you through these pages. We welcome you
to the session 2009-10. Since 25th August 1998 we have come a long way.
With the kind support of NCL and you all we have in all these years been able to
implement the policies of CBSE & DPS Society like:
- adopting a student friendly approach with primary focus on preparing an individual
for life and world of work along with value orientation. We strongly believe that
it is always better to teach the know-how of ‘how to fish than providing a fish’.
- we have demonstrated constant innovation and improvement with the intent of de-stressing
education and making it more holistic and joyful. We have believed in learning with
understanding than learning by rote.
- we have the policy of retaining the books of tiny tots in the school for reducing
their load of school bag.
- continuous and comprehensive evaluation is used to assess the effective, cognitive
and psychomotor development of students on a five point grading scale with no pass/fail
up to Class V.
- for secondary class’s school based internal assessment has been integrated with
board examinations.
- teachers guide students towards HOTS (Higher Order Thinking Skills).
- extension of school’s working hours on Wednesdays and Fridays uptil 3:00 pm for
providing both remedial and challenging measures to students has proved to be good
help in achieving our targets.
Children of the school have set record in the Class X 2008 Board Examination by
giving one of the best results in the country.
In National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) 19 students were selected in the first
phase, 13 students in the second and third phase and 4 students could earn scholarship
which itself is a record.
With the efforts of the staff members we had exposed the students of our school
to more than 17 competitions like National Cyber Olympiad, Green Olympiad, DPS Science
and Mathematics Talent Search Examination, MBD Talent Search Examination, National
Level Science Talent Search Examination etc. Our Students have excelled and have
been felicitated by Governors and Ministers.
Teachers are being exposed on regular basis to workshops of highest order which
are conducted by DPS Society and CBSE on issues like Early Childhood Education,
Life Skills, Adolescent Education, Sports, Languages, Strategic Leadership in 21st
Century, Principal’s Visionary Leaders and the like.
Morning Assemblies are yet another effort of the school which needs to be highlighted
through these pages. Each Morning Assembly presented by the class is in itself equivalent
to major functions in which parents are also invited to witness. These assemblies
and other function like farewells provide the students opportunity to develop their
skills of team work.
During the last session the school had also taken the initiative to teach regional
language like Malayalam, Tamil, Marathi, Bengali, Oriya, Bhojpuri, Gurmuki, Urdu
& Telgu.
In the coming session we have decided to introduce Quiz competitions for the tiny
tots in which parents will also participate.
We are thankful to the NCL management for providing us with 6 extra rooms and Audio
Visual room. This added infrastructure would enable us to execute activities like
Art, Music, Dance in a better manner. Children will also get good exposure to various
power point presentations through Audio Visual room. We shall be in a position to
establish Maths and S.St. Lab. In my personal opinion students of DPS Nigahi are
having immense potential to sustain all hardships of life and are all marching ahead
towards becoming best global citizens.
We need to guide our children towards discovering their hidden talents and not to
shy way from putting across their potential. Here in we would like to share the
beautiful words of Marianne Williamsons:
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are
powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens
us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. You’re playing small doesn’t
serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people
won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. We were
born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some
of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give
other people permission to do the same. As we’re liberated from our own fear, our
presence automatically liberates others.”
Please make a habit of going through this Almanac on regular basis and try to remain
in touch with the school as much as possible.
Ensure that incase of a planned leave it is duly sanctioned and in case of any emergency
the absence is brought to the notice of the school in time.
